Ajmal Kasab to Petition SC

Legal News India: Ajmal Kasab has decided to appeal to the Supreme Court of India challenging the death sentence awarded to him by the Bombay High Court for his role in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Kasab’s state-appointed lawyer, Farhana Shah, met him in his cell at the Arthur Road. She “informed him of Monday’s order and told him that as per proceedings, he had a legal right to appeal against the order in the apex court.”

farhana-shahKasab will have to write to the jail superintendent about his decision to appeal against the HC’s order. Shah claimed, “He will receive a certified copy of the judgment from the court’s registrar and can then appeal within 90 days from date the order was passed.” Legal aid for petitioning in the SC will be provided to Kasab in Delhi, said Shah.
