The Islamic extremists in Somalia have been offended by samosas. Locally known as sambusas, this snack has been banned in the districts around the capital Mogadishu, Somalia. The Islamist extremist group, Al-Shabaab, propagated the bizarre command in vehicles fitted with loudspeakers across the Afgoye district.

 India news reports on Common wealth games continue to appall and shock the nation. People are talking about it everywhere with sarcasm than pride. Media reports from the UK indicate that the British Queen is angry over these allegations of corruption involving a London-based company and the baton relay of the Common Wealth Games, which is going to be held in October 2010, in Delhi. Apparently, it is reported that the Queen is furious about these allegations, which she views as a disgrace of the royal baton.

Khatta Meetha is a comedy that is produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd and distributed by DreamWorld Searchlight Pictures. This Akshay Kumar starrer is a remake of Priyadarshan's Malayalam film Vellanakalude Naadu (1988). After the runaway success of Hera Pheri, Garam Masala and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, the Priyadarshan – Askshay Kumar team are back for the sixth time with something more than a slapstick comedy. Trisha, a highly popular Tamil actress, made her debut through Khatta Meetha. Other actors in the film are Makrand Deshpande, Rajpal Yadav, Aroona Irani, Urvasi and Milind Gunaji. The movie has many comic sequences that made the entire audience laugh for several minutes, thanks to Akshay Kumar and the clumsy assistant played by Rajpal Yadav. Most importantly, the movie tells us the difficulties that an ordinary man faces in complying with existing laws and the immediate repurcussions that fall on him when he fails to comply. The other relevant issue that is dealt with throughout the movie is the problem of corruption at every level, be it in a government office, a business or even approval of road contracts by regulatory authorities.

It’s by chance that I sat down to watch an old Hindi movie, Woh 7 Din, starring Naseerudin Shah, Anil Kapoor and Padmini Kohlapure. I didn’t expect to be so involved with the movie but watch it and you’ll know what I mean. The movie has nothing of today’s type of cinema – cheesy dialogues, ethereal music, visual effects; dazzling costumes by the best fashion designers, brilliant sets for dancing, foreign locations for songs, and not even the top stars who represent the Who’s who of Bollywood. In fact, the hero starring Anil Kapoor made his debut through this simple love story that has lots of family drama and very little glamor.

Being in a legal profession is not easy. We know exactly how difficult it is to maintain a high status life for which you have to make certain sacrifices.  Even the countless photocopies, paralegal expenses, and a thousand chores that are a part of a lawyer's daily grind remains unappreciated by demanding clients. Imagine the good things that lawyers are forced to sacrifice like the way they miss the daytime television, especially the cricket matches. Further, they have to maintain ridiculously serious expressions throughout the day and can't  even laugh out aloud when they spot something funny. Lawyers have to also travel a lot and the client doesn’t appreciate that because it means more expenses. In fact, the short cut to being a happy lawyer requires you to be a miser at most times.

Laws can’t protect us from a lot of things, like when you are a child, craving to have a home that you can call as your own like the rest of your friends. It’s strange to feel homeless just because you don’t own the structure you live in but children have a strong sense of territory and they can never feel happy about living in a place that is not truly their own.
