CBI to Investigate another Pune Land Scam

Legal News India: The Bombay High Court indicated that another land scam in Pune, which probably is bigger than the Adarsh Society scam in Mumbai, might be entrusted to the CBI for investigation. The Pune scam supposedly began in 1976 and might run to more than Rs.3 billion. The case is being judged after the filing of a public interest litigation (PIL) which alleged that the land meant to be used for the betterment of the weaker sections of the society, has been granted to developers for commercial use.

Under the Urban Land Ceiling (Regulation) Act (ULCA), individuals or trusts were permitted to own up to 500sq.m of the land. However, most owners were real estate developers and industrialists and they were granted this land years ago.
