Cyber Law: Techno-Legal Training in India for Law Enforcement Officials

India is a secure haven for cyber criminals, given the dismal track record of cyber law enforcement in the country. The Indian Judiciary system also finds it difficult to convict sophisticated cyber criminals because of the lack of adequate and effective cyber law. The government of India should reappraise the existing weak cyber law situation and set up tribunals that can expedite justice delivery and deter cyber criminals.

Cyber Law: The Need for Cyber Forensics Training

Law enforcement officials in India are ignorant of the provisions of cyber laws and cyber forensics. For instance, when the police was required to seize a computer from the crime scene, the officials confiscated only the computer monitor. This ignorance among law enforcement officers about the basics of computers and the intricacies of handling cyber crimes is conceded to by D.V. Guruprasad, Karnataka Corps of Detectives Director-General of police. All these validate the need for techno-legal trainings for law enforcement officers in India.

Perry4Law Techno Legal Base (PTLB), a reputed cyber law training organization, imparts cyber law training to law officials, judges, police officers, lawyers and corporate personnel. The online training sessions offered by the institution does not even require the learner to be physically present at the training venue. They can learn as per their convenience, from the comfort of their offices.

Final Legal Take Away Tip: The PTLB training programs is known for its customized training packages on cyber laws and cyber forensics, as per the legal framework and jurisdiction of a country. The institute already provides cyber law training in countries, such as the U.K., the U.S. and Africa. The Institute is currently designing Indian Cyber law training programme for the law enforcement officials in India

The industry body representing the software and BPO organizations in India called NASSCOM has taken initiatives of training law enforcement and judiciary in cyber crime investigation and cyber laws through its 'India Cyber Lab' program. Number of Cyber labs have been opened in state police cyber crime cell or state police academies and continuous training to law enforcement and judiciary is going on.

NASSCOM, Cyber Cells, etc are not providing any useful training to our cops. Go to any police station and they would simply deny to register a case for cyber law. They are not even aware about cyber crimes. The initiatives by NASSCOM are just eye wash and nothing more.
