Drunk Driving News: Drunk Woman Kills Two in Delhi

How many times have you noticed the signboard ‘Speed thrills but kills,’ while driving? Ironically, only a few yards after crossing the sign, hardly anyone remembers it; at least not those who engage in rash driving! Whatever the excuses for rash driving, the end result is usually the same: fatal accidents that claim innocent lives.

Thousands of people are killed every year in road accidents in India; a major cause for these accidents is drunk driving. Alcohol makes people aggressive and reckless, making them prone to errors, accidents and yet another drunk driving news.

Drunk Driving News: Rash Driving Triggers Two More Deaths

Drunk Driving News: Drunk Woman Kills Two in DelhiOn May 22, 2010, two people were killed by a speeding car in the Capital’s Gopinath Market. The deceased, auto driver Rajkumar (46) and a passenger Ved Prakash Gupta (53), were traveling in an auto-rickshaw along with two other passengers Jeet Singh (28) and Medh Singh (27), who suffered serious injuries and are undergoing treatment in the Safdarjung Hospital.

Nivedita Singh, wife of a Colonel in the Indian Army, was driving a Honda City at a speed of over 90 kmph. The woman, who was also under the influence of alcohol, lost control and crashed into the auto-rickshaw. The woman escaped with minor injuries, since she was saved by the airbags in the car.

According to medical tests reports, the alcohol level in her blood was five times more than the permissible limits. The woman was arrested and charged under Sections 337 (causing hurt), 304 A (causing death due to negligence) and 279 (rash and negligent driving) of the IPC. However, she was later released on bail.

Drunk Driving News: Family of Victims Wait for Justice

According to the deceased Rajkumar’s family, they were not informed by the police even after six hours of the accident. They also alleged that Rajkumar was dead before they could reach the crime scene. Rajkumar was the sole breadwinner of the family, which consists of his old parents, a physically challenged brother and children. As the family waits for justice in their modest Uttam Nagar residence, some are teary-eyed and some still in shock.

Final Legal Take Away Tip: Such inhuman acts can be prevented only by enforcing rules stringently. The license of anyone caught driving under the influence of alcohol must be confiscated. Besides, such crimes should also be made a non-bailable offense under the law.

First, it is really sad that family lost their sole breadwinner. I think all our laws/judicious/political/educational system is just a mock.Because we like magical things and till when it hits hard.By then also we never understand the pathetic conditions. Here I would like to give one example, during Mumbai Terrorist attack (26/11 again a mockery ... See moreof 9/11 - but on the ground none has done anything) - a guy responding to News channel question (How much safe India?) said - "mera goan mein toh abhi tak aisa koi problem nahi" (I do not have any problem at place till now). Almost all prime time channel started airing "Enough is Enough".Next what? News Channels need kichidi items. During Ruchika's case (reopened recently), I followed a news channel and they are making very big promise to em, we bring him down? Where is Mr. Rathore now?

We are the culprits not some others. The countries like France, Britain, US, Australia, Germany have much more worst conditions than us. But just look at them. What actually made them. PEOPLE. We are 120 Billion worthless people who were/are (perhaps will) never united for a cause. I do not want to hear Kargil war, Freedom fight etc., Because it is a desperate attempt to clean - not preemptive attempt to clean.
