These laws may sound dumb, but there are valid reasons behind them and they aim to curb crime and anti-social behavior in Italy. Here are some ‘dumb laws’ of Italy that are sure to amuse you:
Sitting on the Steps of a Local Monument Sitting on the steps of a local monument is prohibited and amounts to violation of ‘public decorum’ in Vigevano. You may be fined for €160, if you are caught sitting on the steps of a local monument. However, the government has said the fine is justified, because the local council spends its valuable time and money to clean up the steps.
Building Sandcastles and Smoking on Beaches If you thought building sandcastles is fun, think again. There is another dumb law in Italy that prohibits the building of sandcastles on beaches in its coastal town of Eraclea. Further, if you are caught smoking on the beaches of Oristano, you may be fined for €360. Also, wearing wooden clogs is banned, in Capri.
Feeding Animals is Banned Feeding the pigeons is considered holy and compassionate in many places but it is an offence in some Italian cities. In case you are caught doing so, in Bergamo, you may be fined for €333. Further, Venice imposes a penalty of €500 for the same offence. Also, feeding wild cats is illegal in Cesena.
