Home Minister Faces Criticism for Blaming Migrants for Crimes in Delhi

Legal News India: Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s comment about migrants being responsible for the increase in crimes in Delhi attracted a lot of criticism from different quarters. Delhi MPs, even those belonging to Chidambaram’s party, disapproved of this comment. Congress MP Sandeep Dikshit, son of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, said, “Chidambaram is not aware of facts.”

Chidambaram had commented on the recent crimes in Delhi saying, “There is a decline in crime in Delhi. Nevertheless, crime takes place because Delhi attracts a large number of migrants. There are a large number of unauthorized colonies, and these migrants who settle in unauthorized colonies, carry a kind of behavior that is unacceptable in any modern city so crimes do take place.”
