Jan Lokpal Bill Will Be Introduced in the Monsoon Session: 10 Member Panel Formed

 India Legal News: The Lokpal Bill which gathered dust since it was introduced in 1972 finally got to see the light at the end of the tunnel in the form of Jan Lokpal Bill (The Citizen Ombudsman Bill). The government was forced to accept the terms, including that of the Official Notification of the Committee and Co-chairmanship by a Civil Society Member. A 10 member panel has been formed which will implement this bill . The campaign was launched by several members of the civil society led by septuagenarian Anna Hazare and bolstered by the new age citizen read social media users and other desktop warriors of India forced the government to pass the bill during the monsoon session. The 98-hour fast upto death by Anna Hazare received a lot of support from various quarters of the society that included writers, politicians, doctors, lawyers, artists and students. 

 
The re-introduction of the Lokpal Bill and Anna’s emergence has come in an interesting time.  The latest Swiss Bank report says, "India has more black money than the rest of the world put together." The UPA is already facing flak over a series of corruption scams and scandals the CWG, Telecom and ISRO and the WikiLEAKS exposé carried out by the Hindu newspaper has already rocked the parliament . It was raining Hazare, a virtual no-one was able to attract over 4.4 Million tweets in just 3 days last week, and thousands of Hazare fan pages mushrooming every hour on Facebook mirroring the popular opinion to stand against corruption.  
 
The 10 member panel will be chaired by Pranab Mukherjee and Shanti Bhushan as co-chairperson. The government members are Kapil Sibal, Salman Khursheed, P Chidambaram and Veerappa Moily, whereas the civil-society members are Anna Hazare, Arvind Kejriwal, Prashant Bhushan and Santosh Hegde.
