KWC Demands a Law for HIV Test Prior to Marriage
Legal News India: The Kerala Women's Commission (KWC) demanded a resolution or a law from the state government to ensure that those getting married undertake an HIV test. “This is an issue that is affecting the entire humanity and hence adequate measures have to be taken to safeguard all,” elaborated KWC chairperson, Justice (retd.) D. Sreedevi.
The KWC put forth this request due to several cases in which men got married despite knowing that they were HIV positive. The panel, in its annual report, requested the Kerala government to support children affected by HIV.
The Kerala State Aids Control Society (KSACS) shared that 55,167 people in the state have been tested HIV/AIDS positive.
