Law Entrance: Law Education Redefined at the National Law School

The National Law School of Indian University (NLSIU) is one of the best known law schools in the country for law education. Situated in Bangalore, the institute has an acclaimed history of law education. It began as an ambitious endeavor to establish itself as a path breaking legal institute and this was proposed to the Bar Council of India (BCI). Eventually, the BCI sought for the status of a certified University from the University Grants Commission.
On August 29, 1987, the NLSIU was established by the Karnataka Government, under the provisions of the National Law School of India Act. The project was realized with the help of the State Government, the Bangalore University, the BCI and various other supporters.
Law Entrance: The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) Entrance Exam
The law entrance exam that you have to clear, in order to get admission in the NLSIU is known as the common law admission test (CLAT). A candidate who has cleared Higher Secondary Examination or equivalent examination, with at least 50 percent marks (45 percent in case of SC/ST/OBC/Disabled) shall be eligible to take the exam. The age limit is minimum 20 years (22 years for SC/ST/Disabled) to appear in the exam.
To appear in the law entrance exam for the LL.M programme, you shall hold a LL.B/B.L. degree, with at least 55 percent of marks (50 percent for SC/ST/OBC/Disabled).
The CLAT exam is considered to be one of the toughest exams to crack. The difficulty standard for this law entrance exam is often compared to the IAS exam.
