Legal Workshop Series: Our CJI Speaks less and does More, Says P.H.Parekh

On 31st July 2010, Pravin H. Parekh, Senior Advocate and President of Confederation of Indian Bar, addressed the august gathering assembled at Vigyan Bhavan for the legal workshop inauguration of the All India Seminar on Judicial Reforms.

Legal Workshop Series: CJI Knows Balance Sheet Well, Says Pravin H.Parekh

Chief Justice of India Sarosh Homi KapadiaAt the legal workshop, Pravin H. Parekh, Senior Advocate, spoke briefly about President Pratibha Patil and how she began her career as an advocate. He stated that above everything else, “Our President is a great and good human being.”

Then, he called the Justice S.H.Kapadia, the Chief Justice of India, as a ‘role model for lawyers and legal students.’ When he said, “He knows the balance sheet very well,” the audience burst into laughter for the CJI’s penchant for statistics is well-known.

Pravin H.Parekh appreciated the Chief Justice of India by stating the obvious, “Our CJI speaks less and does more. Fourteen topics for the All India Seminar on Judicial Reforms were selected under the guidance of Justice S.H.Kapadia.”

Legal Workshop Series: SC Judges are Busiest on Weekends but Extended Co-operation, Says P.H.Parekh

Pravin H. Parekh, Senior Advocate and President of Confederation of Indian BarAt the legal workshop, Pravin H. Parekh spoke briefly about Mr. Gopal Subramanium, the Solicitor General of India & Chairman of the Bar Council of India, and Ravindra Shrivastava, the Vice President, Confederation of Indian Bar.

He added, “Supreme Court judges are busiest on weekends but they offered full co-operation to preside over various sessions in this seminar.”

While speaking about Harish Salve, he stated in a lighter vein, “We all know that he is one of the busiest lawyers within India and outside India. In fact, I propose that we should impose a ceiling or amendment to restrict his frequent trips abroad.” Once again, there was laughter in appreciation of a fact that was put so lightly yet with appreciation before the distinguished members of the Bar and Bench.

In a lighter vein, P.H.Parekh, Senior Advocate, said, “Yesterday, my wife asked me why we have these legal workshop sessions. It’s fine to have them but nothing gets implemented, she pointed out.”

There was laughter all around, when he said to the audience, “Now, it is for you to keep up my credibility before my wife by implementing what we learn in these workshops.”

The President of India was definitely smiling.
