Lokpal Bill Draft Approved By the Cabinet

 India Legal News: The union government of India has passed a draft of the anti-graft Lokpal Bill today. It will be presented before the parliament at the monsoon session. The cabinet has decided that the Prime Minister and the judiciary will not come under the direct purview of the Lokpal.  The bill passed by the government is largely based on the suggestion of five minister members of the drafting committee.

Anna Hazare’s version of Lokpal has been ignored, Kiran Bedi, a member of Anna’s team was dissatisfied with the outcome, she reportedly said to a private TV channel, “With Lokpal in current form, country has been taken for a ride. Ridiculous. Fractured bill.”

The new draft proposes a body which will be headed by a chairperson, who would be a either a serving or a retired SC judge and eight members, which includes four judicial members.
