Non-legal Tips for Lawyers: Can you Have Fun and Save Money

Being in a legal profession is not easy. We know exactly how difficult it is to maintain a high status life for which you have to make certain sacrifices.  Even the countless photocopies, paralegal expenses, and a thousand chores that are a part of a lawyer's daily grind remains unappreciated by demanding clients. Imagine the good things that lawyers are forced to sacrifice like the way they miss the daytime television, especially the cricket matches. Further, they have to maintain ridiculously serious expressions throughout the day and can't  even laugh out aloud when they spot something funny. Lawyers have to also travel a lot and the client doesn’t appreciate that because it means more expenses. In fact, the short cut to being a happy lawyer requires you to be a miser at most times.

Non-legal Tips for Lawyers: Why are Misers Good Lawyers?

The answer to this weird joke is that lawyers know exactly how to make every penny count to their advantage!

On a more serious note, it’s important to remember a golden rule followed by smart entrepreneurs – the easiest way to save money is to not spend it.

So, here are some more non-legal tips to help lawyers cut their expenses.

Cut down on Everything, even Peanuts

In court, you can be as vague as possible so that you confuse everyone parked there but when you want to cut down expenses, there are specific ways to do it. Instead of opting for special diet plate during your flight, take along some fresh fruits and bottled water. Water fills the empty stomach easily and keeps your wallet full too. Also, don’t get lured by the flight attendant’s enticing smile and offer of expensive snacks. Even peanuts on the flight costs like diamonds. Be strong-willed and avoid the beverage cart of the airline. Leave the experimenting to other adventurous travelers.

Don’t Miss a Buffet

During legal conferences, client meetings and workshops, never miss an opportunity to attend a meeting room buffet line. Don’t waste time. Remember, how you used to grab the torch during relay races in school? That’s the way to be when you are on a buffet line. Grab as much as you can as early as possible. If late, chances are that all the brownies, cookies and cakes will be gone and you will be left with bland leftovers. Remember, successful lawyers are those who spend their time and money very carefully.

A Light Heart Lives Long, So Better Not to Opt for Room Service

When William Shakespeare said that a light heart lives wrong, he didn’t imagine that it would serve as sound advice for lawyers who want to cut down their expenses. So, don’t call for room service while staying in a hotel during the trip. You may find these non-legal tips weird and though they sound funny, you can actually use them to build a nest egg of savings. Remember, every penny that is saved is earned but don't skip the fun part of yourself either. Like Katherine Hepburn said about rules – if you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun.
