Passport expired, what to do?

Can anyone tell me if we can renew a passport which is expired for more than 7 years?

Yes, you can renew the passport but typically, at some passport offices (i.e. in Delhi and UP), they advise you to apply for a new one if you have exceeded five years in getting it renewed. You can visit the passport, explain the delay of seven years and then ask whether to renew or to opt for a new one with details of your expired passport. That would be a more effective course of action.

What is a person's passport is expiring in next month and have to travel for business trip/tour for next 3 months? Can the renewal be done in advance or the person have to visit Indian Embassy of visiting country the day passport expires?

renewal of passport is done online now. So it can be done well in advance. And one can also apply in "tatkal" scheme by which u will receive the passport in 10days
