Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2011: Good News For NRIs

India Legal News: Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2011 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in the capital today. The theme this year is “Engaging the Global Indian”.  The event is organized by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs.

Speaking during the 9th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, the Prime Minister said that the Government has inked agreements and partnerships with 14 nations to improve the condition of Indians workers overseas. Dr. Manmohan Singh added that the Indian Community Welfare Fund, which addresses issues faced by Indian citizens, is being extended to all Indian Missions. He hoped that the Indian economy would grow at a rate of 9 to 10% from next year onwards. The Prime Minister mentioned that the Government was considering steps to making its procedures more transparent. “I am happy to inform you that the bill on Voting rights for Non-Resident Indians has been approved by the Parliament,” announced Vayalar Ravi, Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs.
