SC To Hear Petition Against Kalmadi Today

India Law News: The Supreme Court will hear a petition seeking for CBI inquiry against Suresh Kalmadi, the Chairman of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee today. Kalmadi and few others are facing allegation of corruption in the Commonwealth Games to be held in New Delhi.
The petition was filed by a certain Ajay Kumar Aggarwal and in his plea he has requested to remove Suresh Kalmadi from the organizing committee.
It should be noted that the Central Vigilance Commision's (CVC) had reportedly found discrepancies like poor quality of construction work, faulty tender and work award process in over dozen of Commonwealth projects. Kalmadi has also been accused of rampant nepotism.
Out of the allocated Rs 70,000 Crore, whopping Rs. 44,459.48 was spent on renovations only. The break up is as follows, the Indira Gandhi stadium - Rs. 669 crore, Dhyan Chand hockey stadium - Rs. 262 crore, Karni Singh shooting ranges - Rs. 149 crore and the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium is Rs. 961 crore.
