Separate High Courts For All North Eastern States

India Legal News – There will be separate High Courts for each of the seven North Eastern States, currently there are 4 High Courts in the North East region. If infrastructural facilities are facilitated well on time by the respective state governments, setting up of individual High Courts would be just a matter of some time. The Governments of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura are the remaining states who yet have a HC of their own. The three states have already created separate necessary facilities so that establishment of separate High Courts can happen smoothly.Tripura is likely to benefit the most because there are almost 52,000 cases pending.

The decision is likely to benefit millions of people who currently either run towards Gauhati  or Sikkim HC making situations not only tough for the common man but sometimes a decision is delayed for someone staying in remote areas. The Home ministry has also moved The North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisaiton) and Other Related Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2012 in Parliament in may, 2012, to augment the process of establishing of High Courts in these 3 States.
