Stay Clean Inside the Black Robe: SH Kapadia

 India Legal News:  Speaking at a public function, the CJI (Chief Justice of India) SH Kapadia reminded the top judges of their moral and social responsibility.  “We need a clean man in black robe to uphold the independence and integrity of the judiciary,” Kapadia said.


 

The CJI of India a supporter of judicial activism also intends to root out corruption from the judiciary through methodical actions. He also said that the political protection should not be given to those who are corrupt, including judges. He also advised top judges to maintain a comfortable distance with public at large to avoid any unwanted speculation by the media or public. He said, “A judge must inevitably choose to be a little aloof and isolated from the community at large. He should not be in contact with lawyers, individuals or political parties, their leaders or ministers, unless it is on purely social occasions.”

 He was speaking at the MC Setalvad lecture, sponsored by the Bar Association of India
