On 22^nd May, 2010, India witnessed its worst air disaster in the last decade as the Air India Boeing 737 plan from Dubai went beyond the touchdown area at Mangalore airport and burst into flames, killing 158 passengers while eight others survived by jumping out just as the plane caught fire. Even rescue efforts were not easy to implement because of the heavy downpour and weather conditions in Mangalore.
