A British couple in their 20’s – Najafi and Charlotte Adams – were arrested and convicted of illegal drinking and inappropriate behavior by a Dubai court. Their lawyer stated that they had never intended to break any laws and had kissed each other on the cheek. The couple admitted to being drunk and denied committing any act bordering on sexual display or passion but admitted to kissing each other on the cheek as a way of greeting one another.
