Dynamics of Caste in India

As the nation gears up to face census India 2011, the topmost question on every mind is why the caste-based census. Is it an attempt to identify real backwardness in the 21^st century or just another Indian ritual? Will the beneficiaries be those who really deserve it, thus negating our social inequalities, or will it be just another eye-wash? Well, if the government’s motive is to actually reach the backward classes, it is sad that they are a bit too late. With just about nine months left the February 2011 census, the government cannot possibly make an overhaul of the existing census system, which relies on the 1931 colonial census data for the census India 2011.
