Legal Workshop Series: Working Session on Lowest Wing of Indian Judiciary
Wed, 08/04/2010 - 06:31 — LIG ReporterOn 31st July 2010, President Pratibha Patil inaugurated the legal workshop sessions scheduled to begin as part of the All India Seminar on Judicial Reforms.
The purpose of the sessions was to educate and interact with members of the legal community, comprising lawyers and students about domain-specific expertise in the field of law. Though it is not possible to cover all working sessions, lawyers and law students attended as many as possible by attending an hour or two of every session but spending more time on domains that were of interest or of unique value.
India Legal News: CJI Announces Measures to Improve Judicial Functioning
Tue, 07/06/2010 - 11:17 — LIG ReporterIndia legal news reports have continuously reported about the increasing number of pending cases that are piling up in the lower courts. These courts are greatly overburdened, with over 3.5 crores pending cases. A majority of the district courts and law enforcement officers have to work under very difficult conditions, such as long hours of power cuts, no fans and minimal infrastructure. However, the conditions of the subordinate courts may soon improve. The Chief Justice of India, S.H. Kapadia, on July 5, 2010, proposed some solid measures to improve the functioning and infrastructure of the lower courts. The CJI said that a special Bench will be formed to hear the problems being faced by the lower courts, every Monday.
