Legal Workshop Series: Working Session on Lowest Wing of Indian Judiciary

On 31st July 2010, President Pratibha Patil inaugurated the legal workshop sessions scheduled to begin as part of the All India Seminar on Judicial Reforms.

The purpose of the sessions was to educate and interact with members of the legal community, comprising lawyers and students about domain-specific expertise in the field of law. Though it is not possible to cover all working sessions, lawyers and law students attended as many as possible by attending an hour or two of every session but spending more time on domains that were of interest or of unique value.

Indian Law Reforms: Retirement Age of HC Judges to be raised to 65 Years

A proposed constitutional amendment bill, which aims to raise the retirement age of High Court Judges, to 65 years, has been cleared by the Union Cabinet. The bill provides for changing the retirement age of HC judges from 62 to 65 years, placing them at par with the Supreme Court judges. However, the bill requires the approval of two-third of the members, of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha before it can become a law.

India Legal News: Judges Told to Uphold Stringent Moral Values in Personal Lives

As per India legal news reports in July 2010, the apex court ordered that all judicial officials must apply stringent moral and social values in their personal lives. Further, it upheld the dismissal of a judge for possessing disproportionate assets.
