The history of modern legal education dates back to the BC era, during which king Vikramaditya pronounced unquestionable verdicts on all cases that came to his court.

The Supreme Court of India, on December 14, 2009, mandated the Centre to conduct bar examination for law graduates, to assess their suitability for entering the legal profession. This means that law graduates can enrol as advocates to the bar only if they qualify the bar exam.
