Unique Identification Authority Bill Put on Hold by Parliamentary Standing Committee

India Legal News: The much touted UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) – Aadhar may run into rough water as the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance has directed the central government to revise the Unique Identification Authority Bill. The reason cited was that the bill could not be passed in its current form, confirmed Yashwant Sinha, the chairman of the Standing Committee.

Except one member from the UPA, rest all of the members of the parliamentary voted against the bill. In the past Vijaya Bank agreed to become a Registrar for the UIDAI last year in December. UIDAI was launched in the month of September, 2010 with much fan fare and had enrolled over 2 Crore Aadhaars in October itself the official website reveals.
