Will Anna Defy Section 144?

India Legal News: Anna Hazare’s plan to sit for a day long fast tomorrow near Jantar Mantar (central Delhi) on June-8 is likely to be mired with further controversies and debates. After the Ramdev crackdown, the Delhi Police clamped  Section 144 of the CrPC, which prevents a congregation of gatherings of over 4 persons at any given spot. Not just Delhi, the Mayawati government yesterday imposed Section 144 in Noida. While the order will be in force for 15 days in New Delhi, it is 60 days in Noida. A senior member of the Hazare team has told the government that any prevention of a peaceful protest will be viewed as violation of fundamental democratic rights, trusted sources reveal that the Union Home Ministry is not too keen in granting permission to hold a one day fast by Anna Hazare.
